Muhammad retreated to a cave outside of Mecca, specifically the Cave of Hira, primarily to seek solitude and contemplation. He was distressed by the corrupt practices and moral decay of Meccan society and sought wisdom from God. It was during one of these retreats in the cave that he received his first revelation from the Angel Gabriel (Jibril), marking the beginning of his prophethood. While his retreat was not explicitly to hide from persecutors at that time, it was a response to his growing concern about the ethical and spiritual state of his society and his quest for divine guidance.
