Can anyone explain to me exactly why the phrase "Let me explain you something" is grammatically incorrect?

It looks correct, but it is not the way this idea is usually expressed. Perhaps it's because "explain" does not take an indirect object.
The usual sentence is:
Let me explain something to you.
