Part 1: Mitosis and Cancer
Mitosis is a crucial process in cell division where a single cell divides to produce two identical daughter cells. This process ensures that each daughter cell receives an exact copy of the parent cell’s DNA (that is organized into chromosomes). The phases of mitosis (PMAT) are prophase (phase where spindle fibers begin to form and visible chromosomes appear), metaphase (phase where chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell), anaphase (phase where sister chromatids are pulled apart by spindle fibers), and telophase (phase were the nucleus forms around each set of daughter chromosomes). The centrosome helps organize the spindle fibers during mitosis. However, mistakes can happen, and when mitosis goes awry, it can lead to uncontrolled cell division. Uncontrolled cell growth can lead to cancerous tumors. Cancerous cells multiply rapidly and can invade other tissues, disrupting normal bodily functions. Understanding the relationship between mitosis and cancer is essential for developing effective cancer treatments.

Mitosis is a process of cell division that results in two Response area daughter cells.
The phase of mitosis where chromosomes align in the center of the cell is called Response area.

Response area is the uncontrolled division of cells that can lead to tumors.
