5x-y=10
x+6y=18
multiply the 2nd equation by -5 because you want to either make the x's or y's cancel
-5x-30y=-90
5x-y=10
-31y=-80
solve for y (it should be a fraction, not a whole number)
put that back in for y in any equation to solve for x
