Terrell stopped by the edge of the cliff, looking a hundred feet down at the very sharp boulders. He adjusted the straps on his backpack and glared at his friend.

"We're lost," he declared.
"We're not lost," insisted Ravi. "Not even a little bit."
Terrell pointed to the cliff and the lush, grassy valley beyond. "You said I should trust that you didn't need a map to know that around this turn is the river. Well, we're around this turn, and look, no river in sight."
"So we took a wrong turn. It happens. Where's your sense of adventure?" teased Ravi, laughing.
"Back in the car," replied Terrell, unamused, "along with our phones and their handy map apps."
"We don't need maps!" said Ravi. He took off his backpack, unzipped a side pocket, and brought out a little leather pouch.
"What's that? Your sense of direction?" Terrell scoffed.
"It is, in fact," said Ravi. "It's a compass. See? I know exactly what I'm doing."
Ravi tapped the compass with his finger and winked knowingly at Terrell. "We can get going as soon as I find the instructions for how to use this."
Which of the following is most likely true?

1 answer

The most likely true statement is that Ravi is not very experienced or confident in using a compass. His need to find the instructions suggests he might not fully understand how to navigate with it, which contradicts his initial assertion that he knows exactly what he's doing.
