The Triple Entente was an alliance formed before World War I, consisting of three major powers:
- France
- Russia
- United Kingdom
These countries joined forces to counterbalance the power of the Triple Alliance, which included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy (although Italy did not remain with the Alliance during the war). The Triple Entente was rooted in a series of agreements and understandings rather than a formal military alliance but played a significant role during the conflict of World War I.
