Choice Writing

At the end of each module, you will get a chance to do writing that YOU want to do. For these choice writing assignments, you can write about anything you want (school appropriate of course) and in any form you want. For example, you could write a short story, a poem, a play, a piece of flash fiction, an essay, a reflection, a letter, a comic strip.

The rule is: IT HAS TO INCLUDE WRITING and be meaningful.

The goal of choice writing is to get you to write for YOU and to enjoy writing while at the same time practicing your writing skills.

Your Task:

Pick a topic to write about. The school appropriate sky’s the limit. Need suggestions for what to write? Look at some suggestions here.

Pick the form of writing you want to use. Are you feeling reflective? Poetic? Dramatic? Artistic? Look at my examples above.

Write! MAKE A COPY and do your choice writing assignment in the template attached to this assignment. Reach out to me for help if you need it! This should be at least one FULL page (12 pt. Font, double spaced) OR 2 complete paragraphs (7-8 complete sentences in each paragraph).

Make sure your writing is MEANINGFUL. You have a lot of freedom in how you write, but make sure whatever it is that it is meaningful to you and school appropriate. You could write a personal reflection about something or someone important to you, you could try writing poetry, you could try writing a script, you could write/design a comic strip, a letter to one of your teacher or someone you admire, etc. It just has to have meaning!

My Super Cool Adventure

Once upon a time, there was a curious little girl named Mia. Mia loved exploring her backyard. One sunny day, she decided to discover all the secrets of her garden. She imagined it was a magical forest filled with fairies and talking animals. As she walked through the tall grass, she spotted a tiny door at the base of an old oak tree. “Wow! I wonder what’s inside?” she thought.

Mia opened the door and found a swirling rainbow of colors! She took a deep breath and stepped inside. Suddenly, she was in a world of sparkling flowers that giggled when the wind blew. There were butterflies that danced and told stories, and a wise old turtle named Timmy who wore glasses. “Welcome, Mia!” he said with a warm smile. “You have a kind heart, and you are now one of us.”

Mia had so much fun playing games and helping animals in the magical forest. She helped a lost bunny find his way home and shared lunch with a family of squirrels. But after a long day, she started to miss her own backyard. Timmy the turtle nodded wisely, “You can always come back, dear Mia, but there’s no place like home.” So, with a heart full of memories and new friends, she stepped back through the door and into her own garden.

From that day on, Mia knew that adventuring in her backyard was just the beginning. She could always imagine going back to the magical world anytime she wanted, and she learned that real magic happens when you believe in your dreams. The End!
