At first, America really wanted to stay out of the fighting in Europe during World War One. But the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915, where a German U-boat hit a British ship and killed many Americans, changed a lot of minds. Then there was the Zimmermann Telegram in 1917, where Germany tried to get Mexico to join their side against the U.S., which made people super angry. These events pushed the U.S. to finally join the war on the side of the Allies.
