One example of a physical change is the melting of ice into water. In this process, ice (solid water) absorbs heat and transforms into liquid water, but its chemical composition remains unchanged. The physical state alters from solid to liquid without any new substances being formed.
Another example is the chopping of wood. When wood is cut into smaller pieces, its size and shape change, but the wood maintains its chemical identity as cellulose, lignin, and other components. Thus, the cutting process is a physical change since it does not result in the formation of a new substance.
