Mirrors

A mirror doesn’t
lie.
“Look at me–
I’m so beautiful.
My wavy locks and
crystal-blue eyes
make me sparkle.
I’m a diamond…
pure perfection.”

Sunglasses cover
my shiny pupils.
“You need a reality
check!” they yell at
me.
“We want to hide
your blindness–your
self-indulging ways.
We are the walls
preventing you from
piercing fellow peers
with your self-obsessed
nonsense.”

“Mirror, do you hear
that? What do they
even mean? Me,
send pain to others?
No way! How dare my
protection accuse
me of such behavior!”
Mirror to lady:
“Watch it, Miss! Your
high and mighty
mentality isn’t humbling
by any means.
Take a look at me
again, but this time…
look longer.
Harder.
Deeper.”

“Oh wow…now I
see it. The coldness.
The blackness.
The pride I carry.
The hurt I’ve
caused so many.
Maybe mirrors do
lie. Or…
maybe I do.”
