The colony that was farthest south in what is now the United States was the Province of Georgia. Established in 1732, Georgia was located on the southeastern coast and extended to the southern borders of what is now the United States. It was the last of the original Thirteen Colonies, created primarily as a buffer between the Carolinas and Spanish Florida.
