c. Local lords
Under the feudal system, most of the land was owned by local lords, who were granted land by the king in exchange for loyalty and military service. Peasants, on the other hand, worked the land but did not own it, while kings held ultimate authority over the land in the kingdom. The Church also owned land but to a lesser extent compared to the local lords.
