Yun Sukman is an artist from Korea. Unlike many artists, Yun did not begin creating her art until she was forty years old. She debuted her most famous work, Mother III, in 1993. Yun created Mother III using old wood and paint. There are ridges and scratches on the wood that give its surface an unmistakable roughness. The weathered grain of the wood gives the appearance of wrinkles on the face of the subject. Yun prefers to use sturdy and aged materials to create her art. Mother III was displayed at the Nation Portrait Gallery in the United States.
