it takes a 40 lb turkey two hours to cook. Tom baked his own turkey that was 1/5 the size of a 40 lb turkey. How long will it take for Toms turkey to bake ?

This is a faulty problem.

First, I've never seen a 40-lb. turkey.
Second, it takes several hours to cook a 20-lb. turkey.
Third, an 8-lb turkey would take much longer than 15 minutes!

Using the math the book's author expects, you're right. But I wouldn't have the nerve to turn in such a ridiculous answer.

40lbs=120mins;...8lbs=120mins/5=24mins....it takes 24mins to cook 8lbs of turkey.
