Nouns can be direct objects, indirect objects, and objects of a preposition.

Examples:
<u>Direct objects:</u>
Joe passed the <i>test</i>.
We watched two <i>movies</i> last night.

<u>Indirect objects:</u>
Dad brought <i>us</i> presents from Japan.
Please give the <i>children</i> the materials needed for the project.

<u>Object of a preposition</u>
We heard a strange noise in the <i>middle</i> of the <i>night</i>.
Frank sat between the two <i>girls</i>.
