The law from the 1800s mandated that men could buy alcohol and cigarettes only form a state store.


Your instructions are very strange. If you are <b>quoting</b> from a source, the words need to be exactly as they originally appeared -- no changes allowed. If you are to paraphrase, however, that's different. Please clarify your directions with your teacher.

I agree with Writeacher: If the law in fact mandated that <b>men</b> could buy, then that, as s e x ist as it is, is the way to write it, as it is fact. I wonder what women could do? They always get by with anything.
