The narcissus flower, also known as the daffodil, is named after a character from Greek mythology.

One of my favorite Greek myths is the tale of Persephone and Hades, which beautifully encapsulates themes of love, loss, and the cyclical nature of life. Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, is abducted by Hades and taken to the Underworld. Demeter’s sorrow leads to the barrenness of the earth, reflecting her grief which causes the seasons to change. This myth not only explains the changing seasons—Demeter's happiness when Persephone returns to the surface for part of the year and her sorrow in the fall, when Persephone goes back to Hades—but it also serves as a poignant exploration of the relationship between life and death. The duality of Persephone as both the Queen of the Underworld and the Spring Maiden highlights the complex nature of existence, making it a narrative that resonates deeply through generations.
