Simplify that rational expression. Please show the steps

x^3-8/x^2-4

I am sure you meant

(x^3-8)/(x^2-4)
the top is the difference of cubes, the bottom the difference of squares

= (x-2)(x^2 + 2x + 4)/[(x+2)(x-2)]
= (x^2 + 2x + 4)/(x+2) , x is not equal to 2 (or else we divided by zero)
