As of my last knowledge update in October 2023, the strongest hurricane on record is Hurricane Patricia, which occurred in October 2015. Patricia reached maximum sustained winds of 215 mph (345 km/h) and made landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Its rapid intensification and peak strength set records for both the eastern Pacific and the Atlantic basins.
In terms of the Atlantic basin, Hurricane Wilma, which occurred in October 2005, is notable for having reached sustained winds of 185 mph (298 km/h) and is considered the strongest hurricane in that region.
