King Amaziah of Judah, as described in the biblical narrative, had a mixed response to correction. In 2 Chronicles 25, he initially seeks to pursue a military campaign against Edom and, despite being warned by a man of God not to go to battle with a larger, mercenary army from Israel, Amaziah continues with his plans.
However, when he is corrected, Amaziah shows a somewhat defensive attitude. Instead of outright rejecting the warning, he questions the prophet about the consequences of the money he spent on the mercenaries and ultimately decides to heed the prophet's warning, reflecting a degree of humility and openness to correction. This decision leads him to ultimately win the battle against Edom.
Nevertheless, Amaziah later struggles with pride and idolatry, leading to further negative consequences. This part of his story illustrates the complexity of his character—he has moments of responsiveness to divine correction but also moments where he fails to fully learn the lessons he is given, resulting in a tragic end to his reign.
