Ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges, and esteemed opponents, today we stand in opposition to the motion that sex work should be legalized in Papua New Guinea (PNG). While we acknowledge the complexities surrounding this topic, we firmly believe that legalizing sex work poses significant risks and challenges that outweigh any proposed benefits.
First and foremost, the social and cultural fabric of PNG is deeply rooted in traditional values that prioritize family and community. Legalizing sex work threatens to undermine these values, leading to increased stigma and potential exploitation of vulnerable populations, particularly women and marginalized groups. Furthermore, the legalization of sex work could exacerbate issues such as human trafficking, as the line between consensual work and coerced participation becomes blurred.
