Explain why there does not exist a point on the horizontal axis whose distance from (5,4) equals 3.

Any point on the horizontal (y=0) axis is AT LEAST 5 units from (5,4). Draw the situation to see why. The closest point on the x axis would be (0,4), which is directly below (5,4). They are 5 units apart
