The human respiratory system is responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide, which is a waste product of metabolism. It mainly consists of the nose, trachea, and lungs. When you breathe in, air enters through the nose, travels down the trachea, and fills the lungs. In the lungs, oxygen from the air is exchanged for carbon dioxide in the blood, which is then carried back to the lungs to be exhaled. This process is essential for providing the body with the oxygen it needs to function properly.
