The relationships between Native Americans and European colonizers were very different for the Spanish and the French. The Spanish wanted gold and to spread Christianity. They often used violence and force to take over Native lands and set up missions to convert Indigenous people. This hurt Native cultures and led to systems like encomienda, which basically enslaved many Native Americans.
On the other hand, the French had a more friendly approach because they were interested in the fur trade. They made alliances with Native tribes like the Algonquin and Huron and created trading partnerships that were based on respect and support. This helped the French make the most of North America's resources, showing a big difference from the Spanish, who mostly wanted to control everything.
