Birds have a really cool respiratory system that helps them breathe in a super efficient way! Unlike us, birds have air sacs that store air and make it so they can get more oxygen when they breathe in. When a bird inhales, air doesn’t just go straight to the lungs; it first fills the air sacs. Then, when the bird exhales, the air moves back to the lungs where oxygen is absorbed into the blood. This special system lets birds get enough oxygen for all that flying they do, making them really awesome at soaring high in the sky!
