In connection with malnutrition is the situation when some children are sent off to school without any breakfast (no food in the house, mom's not up, or whatever). Without food (fuel) to get the children's brains working, they won't do well academically, not to mention physically. Also, if they're hurting because of their empty, growling tummies, they aren't going to learn much either.

One big issue is the non-cafeteria food (cokes, candy, chips): these are nutritionally deficient. The problem is that many kids live on these (cokes, candy) at school. I personally think these are more dangerous than guns at school.
