Could someone check this equation for me please.I have added the steps I have done so far.
7x +9 = 5x-5
subtract 5x from both sides and simplify
2x+9=5
subtract 9 from both sides
2x=-4
divide by 2
x=-2
Thought I had done it right but each side does not add up equally if x = -2.

7x +9 = 5x-5
7x - 5x = -9 + (-5)
2x = -14
x = -7
Plug -7 in to see if it works.
I think you missed a minus sign in your work.
