Can you please check my tenses. In particular, can you tell me, which tense I shall use when making a summary? Can I say “She says she was going to give a party?” when referring to her own words? Or shall I write “She said she was going to have a party”?
1) Mrs Long tells Mr Bennet that Netherfield is taken (has been taken?) by Mr Bingley, a rich young man from the north of England. He came down on Monday to see the place and he was so happy with it that he agreed to take it. Mrs Long describes him as a single man of large fortune.
2) Mrs Bennet is thinking of his marrying one of her daughters. (She is obsessed with marrying them).
Mr Bennet goes on flattering his wife and says that Mr Bingley might like her best.
3) Mrs Bennet would like her husband to go and visit Mr. Bingley first.
4) He agrees on visiting him. However, they can’t get a description of Mr Bingley from him.
Mrs Bingley has to refer to the report made by her neighbour, Lady Lucas. She describes him as young, handsome, friendly (with a simple and friendly manner) and best of all as a good dancer.
5) She says he was coming to the next ball with a party of friends. Actually, he came with his two sisters, his brother-in-law and his friend, Mr Darcy. The last (??) /This was a tall, handsome man with a noble appearance. At first, they looked at him with admiration but then they were disgusted (?) with his unfriendly manners.
6) Though he had a very large fortune too, he could not be compared with his friend, Mr Bingley. He was the proudest, most disagreeable man in the world, and everybody hoped he would never come back. In particular, Mrs Bingley got angry with him since he dared to offend her daughter Elizabeth. When Mr Bingley asked him if he wanted to know Elizabeth, he replied that she was tolerable, but not handsome enough for him.

Elizabeth believes that Mr Bingley’s sisters are handsome and well educated but also proud and conceited.
She could not forgive Darcy, since he had mortified her pride at the ball. Later on, he will change his mind and says that her figure was light and pleasing.
One day a note came from Mr Bingley inviting Jane to Netherfield. Soon after she left, it began to rain and she got wet. When she arrived there, they called the doctor because she had caught a terrible cold. She spent the night there.
