Conduct an online search for organizations that fall into each of the four categories presented in the lecture: Cooperative, Pressure, Profit, and Service. Post the name of ONE organization for each of the identified types of organizations and explain why you think it falls into that category.

In addition to your posting, you will need to reply to 2 of your classmates. You can reply by stating that you agree or disagree with how your classmate categorized the organization but you must explain your answer.

Per my syllabus, I will wait a minimum of 24 hours from your first posting/reply before I grade your discussion. That should be plenty of time for you to make your posting and reply to 2 students. If I enter a grade and you are not satisfied, you are welcome to work toward grade improvement by going back to the discussion to complete what you didn't the first time. Schoology will not notify me that you have made additional postings like it does when you resubmit assignments. If you want me to review your discussion again, you must send me a webmail in Connexus asking me to do so. In that webmail, please indicate the name of the Discussion.

Sure! Here are organizations that fit into each of the four categories: Cooperative, Pressure, Profit, and Service.

Cooperative: Ocean Spray

Ocean Spray is a well-known agricultural cooperative that produces cranberry and grape products. It consists of more than 700 farmer members, primarily cranberry growers, who collaboratively market their products. Ocean Spray fits the cooperative category because it is owned and operated by its members, who share in the profits and benefits of the organization. The members work together to achieve economies of scale and collective bargaining power, which allows them to compete more effectively in the marketplace.

Pressure: Greenpeace

Greenpeace is a prominent environmental pressure group that advocates for ecological protection and social change. It conducts campaigns to raise awareness and influence government and corporate policies regarding environmental issues. Greenpeace embodies the pressure group category because it seeks to influence public opinion and governmental decisions through activism and advocacy efforts, often taking direct action to draw attention to environmental concerns.

Profit: Apple Inc.

Apple Inc. is a multi-national technology corporation known for its consumer electronics, software, and services. Its business model is fundamentally rooted in profit-making, focusing on innovation, product sales, and customer service to generate revenue. Apple falls into the profit category because its primary goal is to maximize profits for its shareholders through the development and sale of its technology products, such as the iPhone and Mac computers.

Service: Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières)

Doctors Without Borders is a humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance in conflict zones and areas affected by disasters. It operates on a non-profit basis and is dedicated to delivering healthcare where it is needed most, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or political affiliation. It fits into the service category because its primary mission is to provide essential health services and medical care to vulnerable populations, often in crisis situations, prioritizing humanitarian aid over profit.

Feel free to provide your thoughts or ask questions regarding these organizations!
