Comecon was formed in 1949 by the Soviet Union and originally included Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania as its members. Other socialist countries, such as East Germany, Mongolia, Cuba, and Vietnam, later joined the organization.
The aim of Comecon was to promote economic cooperation and integration among its member countries, in order to strengthen their economies and reduce their dependence on capitalist countries. The organization facilitated trade, technology transfer, and industrial cooperation among its members, as well as coordinated economic planning and development strategies.
