Looking at Me
K. Reiter
When I look in the mirror
I see me
or what I think I look like
The fact is that no one really
knows what they look like
We don’t see what others see
How could we? I can only imagine
how big my nose really is
or what I look like when I smile
or laugh
What lines are visible to others
what imperfections
Maybe it’s better if we don’t
really know
Maybe it’s best if we just imagine
Guessing we are perfect
and charming
flawless and bewitching
What really matters
is what’s on the inside anyway
We can all see that
figuratively, of course
Kindness and decency
Joy and jubilation
