TEACHING PHILOSOPHY OF SXOLILE THAPELO DLADLA
My name is Sxolile Thapelo Dladla , I am a student teacher at the University of Free States Faculty of Education. Each and every teacher have his or her own teaching philosophy, as a student teacher I will share my own teaching philosophy.According to (Chism, 1998).”Teaching philosophy is referred as a written description of your own goals, values and beliefs regarding both teaching and learning“.Teaching is a life long passion of mine that I believe is a privilege and responsibility.I believe that learner centred approach helps learners. As a student teacher my teaching philosophy centers around creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters critical thinking , encourages active participation and promotes personal growth.
I strive to create an engaging environment where students can feel valued ,challenged and inspired at the same time in order to reach their full potential. My teaching philosophy is grounded in a belief that education is aimed to be transformative by empowering students to think critically ,communicate effectively and navigate the complexities of the world around them. And also empower students to contribute meaningfully to the society.According to my view education is multifaceted , it involves more than just providing information but also help students to become critical thinkers , problem solvers and participate effectively on their communities.
I believe that education is not only about instilling knowledge , it is also about inspiring learners to become lifelong learners and also have fun while learning. The power of education changes lives and shape the future. With a belief of that every student have unique strengths , talents and perspectives that they bring to learning environment , I will allow them to express what they have because learners do not come to class with empty minds .They do have background knowledge that needs to be activated, every learner brings a unique perspective and experience to the classroom .It is my role as a teacher to nurture these qualities and provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful and relevant learning experiences.
One concrete example on how I embody my teaching philosophy Is through the use of engaging teaching methods such as incorporating hands on activities, group discussions and real world application into my lessons inorder to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment .This is where students take ownership on their learning.Students also learn best when they are being challenged and supported at the same time where the environment is safe and inclusive. I strive to ensure that every student has the opportunity to actively participate and learn with the use of technology .I believe that a strong teacher and student relationship is crucial in order to promote a positive learning experience. For students to be able to share their thoughts , burdens, ask questions, seek for guidance and help , I will show empathy and support so that learners will be able to approach me without any fear .I will build trust with students. As a teacher I see myself as a facilitator, mentor and guide, it is my role to make sure that I provide a safe and supportive environment where my students will be supported and feel safe to explore questions and collaborate .
The three fundamental principles that underpin my teaching philosophy are student -centered learning , continuous improvement and collaboration.By Prioritizing the needs of my learners and fostering collaboration between them and continuously reflecting on and refining my teaching practices, I can create a dynamic and effective learning environment for learners.I believe in teaching in a way that is based on constructivist theories of learning.Which means , it is important for students to be actively involved in their learning, to interact with others, this is where they find meaning in what they are learning. I also believe in using culturally responsive teaching methods, which means that I value and respect the cultural backgrounds and perspectives of each student in my classroom.
Teaching is an art and also science. Education is seen as a tool that is empowering and transformative.I pledge to help students in discovering their strengths, overcome challenges and reach their full potential. The love of learning and positive mindset will be instilled .I have hope in inspiring and motivating my students to become lifelong learners and successful individuals in they future endeavors.
