North and South American Civilizations G.R.A.P.E.S. Choice Board

Learning Target: I can creatively summarize a major element of a North or South American civilization using the G.R.A.P.E.S. device.

For this assignment, you will be selecting at least one project from the list below that focuses on the six elements of G.R.A.P.E.S. These projects will help you dive deeper into each element. It's up to you which one you choose to complete. You can complete up to one additional project choice for bonus points!

Geography: Geography is about more than where you are; it's also how you use the resources around you.
For this project, research three artifacts from you civilization. Create a slideshow with a different slide for each artifact. On each slide, describe the artifact and what materials it is made of.
Then, add details such as where your civilization may have gotten these materials and/or how this demonstrates the ways they interacted with their environment.
You should have 4-5 sentences per slide and at least 1 image. All writing should be in your own words.
Religious Beliefs: Pick one of the following civilizations/tribes covered in this module:
- Aztecs
- Inca
- Iroquois
- Algonkian/Algonquin
Research some of the legends, myths, or beliefs of these people. Choose one for this project. Then, create a Slides presentation to retell or summarize the story in your own words. Add pictures and other creative touches to enhance the story. You can find the pictures online, draw your own and upload them, or create them using Google Gemini AI.
Your project should have at least 4 slides with 4 sentences each. Each slide should have at least one image.
Achievements: Choose one of the civilizations covered in the lessons from this module. Create a one-pager to showcase at least 5 of their accomplishments. These can include inventions, innovations, buildings, art, language, conquered territories, or other achievements. You can use Canva or Google Slides to create this project.

Your one-pager should include the NAME of your civilization, and then a balance of images and text to showcase each achievement. All writing should be in your own words, but it does not need to be full sentences.
For a one-pager, you will be graded on your creativity, how well you explain each achievement, and how well you fill the space with a balance of text and images. Political System (Politics): There were several important political and/or military leaders from the civilizations we covered in Module 10. Pick ONE of the following leaders to focus on from the list below.
Atahualpa (Inca)
Tupac Amaru (Inca)
Acamapichtli (Aztec)
Moctezuma II (Aztec)
Find your own! You can even choose tribes/civilizations we haven't learned about in this module
Create a SONG OR POEM about your leader and his/her accomplishments. Think about how they impacted their civilization. Tell the story of how your selected leader led and his contributions to his civilization. Your song or poem should contain enough information to explain who this leader was and what they accomplished.
Write your song or poem on this GOOGLE DOC and add in a Vocaroo link if you added a song! You may use the tune of a song you already know and change the words to make it about your leader.
Economics: The Inca had a unique economy that was unlike any others... to start with, they didn't even use money!
Read one of the following articles to learn more about their unique system. Then, create a podcast on Vocaroo that summarizes what you learned. Create a script on this Google document and include your link on it when you are finished. The podcast should be about 3 minutes long.

Social Structure (Social Classes): What were the roles of men and women in Native American societies? That answer depends on which peoples you are talking about!

For this project, you will compare the roles of men and women in 2 native societies. Choose TWO of the civilizations we've studied this module. Research the roles of men and women in each (I can help if you aren't sure how to find this.) I suggest researching the Maya, Aztec, and Inca because there is more information about this.

For each civilization, describe what men and women were expected to do. THEN, compare the two civilizations in your own words. Use THIS DOCUMENT to express your findings.
