Sporophyte

A sporophyte is the asexual, diploid phase in the life cycle of plants and algae. It is the stage that produces spores through meiosis, which will eventually develop into the gametophyte stage. The sporophyte is usually the dominant phase in the life cycle of many plants, including ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms.
