4m+9+5m-12= 42



my question is how to get m=5 (the answer) can u show me the steps to do this problem right please because i keep getting 6 ?

4m+5m=9m
and
9-12 = -3
so what we have is
9 m - 3 = 42
add 3 to both sides
9 m = 45
divide both sides by 9
m = 5
