Pls help me with this...
Helen had $140 more than Tom. Tom spent
as much as Helen at a shopping centre. How much did Tom have at first if he spent 0.8 of his money while Helen spent 2/3 of hers?

H = T + 140
(H and T are what they had initially)
4T/5 = 2H/3 (equal amounts spent)
10 H = 12 T T = (5/6) H
Solve by substitution.
H = (5/6) H + 140
H/6 = 140
H = 840
T = (5/6)H = 700
Amount spent = (4/5)T = 560
