When the partition is removed in a salinity experiment, two different solutions of varying salinity are allowed to mix. This results in the movement of water molecules from areas of low concentration to areas of high concentration, in order to reach equilibrium. This process, known as diffusion, causes the salt content to become evenly distributed throughout the solution.
