2p+7p=54 It says to combine like terms and solve the equations but i don't know how to. Please help?

1 answer

2p and 7p are like terms because they both have the same variable, p. It does not matter that they are different coefficients. You combine and solve like this:

2p + 7p = 54
9p = 54 (divide both sides by 9 to isolate the p)
p = 6
