This lab is ruining me. isopentyl acetate is a blend of isopentanol, acetic acid, and sulfuric acid. How can products be determined from this information? ethyl acetate is ethyl alcohol, acetic acid and sulfuric acid. Octyl Acetate is n-octanol, concentrated acetic acid and sulfuric acid. I'm supposed to predict these ester's products.

Ethanol and acetic acid produces ethyl acetate while n-octanol plus acetic acid produces octyl acetate.
Here is the general formula.
RCO<b>OH</b> + <b>H</b>OR' ==> <b>HOH</b> + RCOOR'
The bold shows the OH and the H involved to produce water; the molecules hook there. The produces the R-C=O with the =OR' hooked to the C.
