1 answer

One of the darker actions examined in "The Dark Side" is betrayal. In "Julius Caesar" by William Shakespeare, Marcus Brutus betrays Caesar by joining the conspiracy to assassinate him. Brutus's intentions in betraying Caesar are driven by his belief that Caesar's ambition would harm Rome and his desire to uphold the republic.

If Brutus were able to overcome his darker impulse to betray Caesar and instead indulge a higher intention, such as finding a peaceful solution to Caesar's potential tyranny, the story or drama would change drastically. Perhaps Brutus could have tried to reason with Caesar or persuade him to relinquish some of his power rather than resorting to violence. By choosing a higher intention, Brutus could have potentially avoided the tragic consequences of his actions and preserved the unity and stability of Rome.
