How does climate and physical features interact to determine the natural vegetation cover of a country?

Plants need a certain temperatures and water and terrain in which to grow. Tropical trees won't grow in northern climates. Only succulents, like cacti, can grow in the arid conditions of the desert. Grapes grow well on hillsides, but corn and wheat do not.

I'm sure you can think of other examples.
