Can someone help me figure out the equation? I am not good at figuring this out.
Investing her bonus. Donna invested her $33,000 bonus and received a total of $970 in interest after 1 year. If part of the money returned 4% & the remainder 2.25%, how much did she invest at each rate?

x = interest at 4% so
interest at4% = 0.04x

How much money is left if we take away x? It is 33,000-x. That was invested at 2.25% so
interest earned at 2.25% =
0.0225(33,000-x).
If we sum the two interest amounts we have $970.
amt at 4% + amt at 2.25% = 970.
Just substitute and solve for x.
Post your work if you get stuck.

Help! I still cant figure this out.
742.50-.0225x = 33000. Is this correct so far? Thank you!

No, I think you dropped the 0.04x but everything else is ok.

0.04x + 0.0225(33,000-x)=970
0.04x + 742.50 - 0.0225x = 970
I'll let you finish.
