D. Those areas were good for farming
The first inhabitants of mainland Southeast Asia settled in the plains and river valleys because those areas were fertile and suitable for agriculture. The availability of water from the rivers allowed for irrigation, which helped in the cultivation of crops. This made farming easier and more productive in these regions compared to other areas.
