I'm not smarter than a 5th grader!

ok. Assignment was to write "Fourty Thousanths".

Would 0.040 really be right? That seems like four hundredths to me. I USED to know math Trying to help my son.

Don't feel bad. Most of us forget elementary math.

Forty thousandths = 40/1000. You can divide 40 by 1000 on your calculator to get the decimal equivalent.

You're right that 0.040 is four hundredths. Four hundredths is the same as 40 thousandths. Forty thousandths = 0.040.
