Let M = cost of materials.
Then L = labor = 1.5 M.
=========================
M + L = 17,000 and
L = 1.5 M
Solve for M and L. Simultaneous equations.
Post your work if you get stuck.

Is it
m + 1.5 m = 17,000
-m - 1m = 17,000
.5m = 17,000
-------------- =
.5
m + 1.5 m = 17,000

<b>No,
M + 1.5M = 17,000 is correct.
combine terms and solve for M, then L (you get L from the other equation)</b>
