I feel confident about creating classification models because I have learned about the different characteristics that organisms share within each taxonomic level. It is challenging to interpret molecular data because it requires a deep understanding of genetics and biochemistry. One way to explain a scientific name is by breaking it down into its genus and species names. In order to remember definitions of vocabulary words in this unit, one strategy I used was creating flashcards and reviewing them regularly. If I am not sure how to figure out how to support a claim, one strategy I can use is conducting research and gathering evidence to back up my statement.
Reflection: Throughout this unit, I have learned a lot about the classification of organisms and how to categorize them based on their common characteristics. I found it fascinating to see how different organisms share similarities in their major physical characteristics, even across different kingdoms. I also enjoyed creating classification models and practicing identifying organisms based on their taxonomic structure. Overall, this unit has deepened my understanding of the diversity of life on Earth and how scientists organize and study different species.
