Two buildings have 60 floors altogether. Building A has 3 floors for every 2 floors of Building B. How many floors does each building have?

Here is a very simple way:
Ratio of
bulding A: building B = 3:2 = 3x:2x

then 5x = 60
x = 12

3x = 36 ---> building A
2x = 24 ---> building B

Just realized it said "elementary" so I don't know if you know how to work with variables.
Here is another way

12 .. 8 .. 20
24 .. 16 .. 40
30 .. 20 .. 50
36 .. 24 .. 60

notice 3/2 = 6/4 = ... = 36/24
