In America, classes are ill defined, and frankly, no one agrees.

Be sure to read that article carefully, especially the section on the working class.
Take a look at that pie chart, too -- and figure out who pays the most taxes. If the middle class shrinks, two things come to my mind:
1. There are more people below the poverty level.
and
2. There are fewer people paying the vast majority of taxes in the country.
