Unstable equilibrium

1 answer

An unstable equilibrium refers to a state in which a system is balanced but any slight disturbance can cause the system to move away from that balance point. In this state, the system is not able to return to its original position on its own and may instead continue to move away from the equilibrium point. This is in contrast to a stable equilibrium, where the system will return to its original position after being disturbed. Unstable equilibriums are often seen in physical systems such as a pencil balanced on its tip or a ball at the top of a hill.
