This theory states that human personality is influenced by an individual's motivation to fulfill certain needs in a specific order, such as physiological needs, safety needs, love/belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. Each level must be satisfied before an individual can move on to the next level in the hierarchy.
